Cryogenic Valve Balls for LNG - Joint Development with ITT Corporation

 

Collaboration Pain Point

ITT needed valve balls capable of maintaining absolute seal integrity at -196°C cryogenic temperatures for LNG applications. The key challenges were ensuring the valve ball's dimensional stability and spherical surface perfection under extreme thermal changes - a critical requirement for zero-leakage LNG valve systems

 

Ball Solution

Our engineering teams collaborated with ITT on a 12_month co-development program, focusing on optimizing the valve ball's material selection and precision manufacturing process. We created a proprietary valve ball manufacturing process that strictly controls the sphericity tolerance, ensuring nc deformation under extreme temperature fluctuations

Collaboration Pain Point

Emerson's valves in sour gas and acidic crude applications faced severe erosion-corrosion challenges for their valve balls. Standard surface coatings failed within months, leading to frequent downtime and high replacement costs - a critical pain point for H2S and CO2 rich environments.

 

Ball Solution

We launched a joint engineering initiative with Emerson to develop a custom multi-layer HvoF coating system exclusively for Emerson's valve balls. Material scientists from both companies optimized the coating formula, adhesion process and porosity control, tailoring the solution for the aggressive sour gas environment.

•Developed a proprietary HVOF coating for valve balls with adhesion >85 MPa and porosity <1.5%
